Denise graduated with a BSc (Dietetics) from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town in 1996. Presently, at her alma mata, she is a BSc Nutrition candidate specialising in the gastrintestinal microbiome which spans many medical specialities. She is diving deeper into the science of medical nutrtion therapy.
Her therapeutic approach is patient-centred. She majored in psychology in the 2000's to further equip her with her holistic approach to patient care. She is an Accredited Diabetes Educator with the Diabetes Society of SA (DESSA) and is certified in Dietary Research Methodology with the SA Medical Research Council (SAMRC). Denise has experience and a special interest the multi-disciplinary-team approach to patient care, nutrition diagnosis, support and education, and clinical nutrition support - specifically critical care nutrition.
Denise has worked in South Africa, Eastern Europe, and Europe as a volunteer for Youth with a Mission and church planting organizations. She provides medical nutrition therapy to South African and international clients. Her first international volunteer work was lecturing nutrition wellbeing at Institute Emmanuel in Ukraine, Kyiv in the 1990s. She volunteered as a cook, providing nutrtious meals, on Scripture Union children's camps since university.
Denise is married with five adult children who are following their dreams. She loves being lost in nature with her beloved husband. Her favourite pastimes are researching every and everything that interests her and that will positively impact the health and wellbeing of the people that surround her. She's an avid reader, loves sport, and motorbike rides. She fills her tank through family,friends, church, rest and nature.
